February 11, 2026 — Calhoun County, Iowa

Emergency responders were called to the scene of a serious bus crash late Wednesday morning on Iowa Highway 4, north of the Twin Lakes area in Calhoun County. Authorities report that a charter passenger bus overturned along the highway, prompting a large response from law enforcement, emergency medical services, and the Iowa State Patrol.

Approximately 33 people were on board the bus at the time of the crash. Officials have confirmed that multiple occupants sustained serious injuries. Several individuals were transported to area hospitals, with some taken by medical helicopter for further treatment. The exact number and condition of those injured have not yet been released.

Highway 4 was closed in both directions between County Road D26 and Iowa Highway 7 as crews worked at the scene. Motorists were advised to avoid the area, particularly near the north curve by Twin Lakes, due to extended emergency operations. A detour was put in place while responders remained on scene.

Authorities have stated that the vehicle involved was a charter bus carrying college-aged passengers. The crash did not involve a South Central Calhoun Community School District bus or students.

The cause of the crash has not been released. The Iowa State Patrol continues to investigate, and additional information is expected as it becomes available.

This remains a developing story.
