Charles Loeck

Charles Smith Loeck of Yulee, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2022.

Charles was born on Oct. 19, 1941, in Lake City to Dr. W.H. “Bill” and Laurella (Smith) “Dottie” Loeck. He graduated from Lake City High School in 1960, continued his education at the University of Iowa.

Charles earned his his undergrad degree in 1964, and graduated from the UI School of Dentistry in 1968. Immediately following graduation, he served as a captain in the United States Air Force, providing dental care stationed at Selfridge Air Force in Michigan from 1968 to 1970.

After the service, he returned to Lake City to join his father in his dental practice until 1979, when his father passed. Chuck continued to practice on his own, moving his practice to the Center of Health Service at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in 1993. He sold his practice in 2002, and started doing Locum Tenens work until retiring in 2010.

Chuck was married to Susan Thompson in 1973, until her death in 1992. He married Nicki Dillman in 1993. They vacationed at Amelia Island, Florida, for 20 years and moved there permanently in 2011.

Over the years, Chuck was very active in the Lake City community and other professional groups, including serving on the ADA and IDA boards, Lake City Development, SMCH board, Union Church elder and building committee, Opportunity Living Board, Southern Cal school board, City Council of Lake City, Board of Directors of Lake City State bank and Kiwanis. In Florida, he enjoyed playing bridge, Men’s Newcomers Club, golf and spending time with friends.

His whole life, he enjoyed sports, especially football and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Nicki of Yulee, Florida, sister Deb (Duane) Sporleder of Lake City, brother Tom (Nancy) Loeck of Lake Panorama, brother-in-law Dwight Dial of Lake City. He is also survived by daughters Dr. Regan Luders, DDS of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, her children Ben and Hayden; Dr. Beth (Henry) Hoopes of Letts, Iowa, their children Paul, Will and Ed; and Kathryn (Andrew) Leihsing of Hillsdale, Illinois, and their children Paige, Lydia, Finn and Maddie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jane Dial in 2013, and his brother, John, in 2022.
