Iowa State Patrol releases crash report for fatal Calhoun County accident

One person has died and another was injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred just after 7 a.m. on Sept. 10, 2025, at the intersection of Fletcher Ave. and U.S. Hwy 20 in rural Calhoun County.
The Iowa State Patrol has confirmed that Cadyn Oscar Ogden, 15, of Rockwell City, died at the scene. He was a student at South Central Calhoun High School.
Richard Lawrence Kanne, 71, of Lake View, suffered unspecified injuries.
Ogden was driving northbound on Fletcher Ave. and failed to stop at the stop sign on U.S. Hwy 20, according to the crash report. His Ford F-150 was then struck by a Mack Semi driven by Kanne, who was headed eastbound on U.S. Hwy 20.
The motor carrier listed for the Mack Semi is Tiefenthaler Ag-Lime Inc of Breda.
Dense fog was reported at the time of the accident.
Several agencies assisted at the scene including Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Calhoun County EMS, Iowa Dept. of Transportation (DOT), Lytton Fire and Rescue, and Iowa State Patrol Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit.
According to the Iowa DOT, there have been 191 motor vehicle fatalities in the state so far this year, with six of those occurring since Sept. 1.
