Gaffney wins medalist

The SCC boys golf team won the Twin Lakes Conference (TLC) Title and Caleb Gaffney earned medalist honors for the Titans at the Lake Creek Country Club on May 5.
SCC had three players break 80 as they rolled to a 15-shot win over Alta-Aurelia. In addition to Gaffney setting the pace with a low round of 75, Charlie Nattress and Caleb Juhl both shot 79 to earn third and fourth place for the Titans.
“I had set a number for the kids to shoot, like I normally do for meets,” said head coach Jeff Boerner. “They went lower — 321 to be exact — than what I was hoping they would shoot for the 15-stroke win. Top to bottom, the kids played one of their better rounds for the year. Caleb Gaffney was the overall tournament medalist, with Charlie Nattress and Caleb Juhl placing in the top 4 as well. Noah Hendricks, Halas Steig, and Kaden Dorman were in the top half of the field with their scores.”

SCC (170) vs Pocahontas Area (169) – May 6
The SCC boys golf team lost by a single stroke to Pocahontas Area on May 6 at Pocahontas Golf Club.
Charlie Nattress and Caleb Juhl both shot 42 to lead the Titans, with Halas Steig and Noah Hendricks both carding 43 to give SCC a team total of 170.
“This was our fifth meet in six days,” said Boerner. “The kids played okay for the most part in a one-stroke loss. They were a little upset with the loss, but looking back, I think it was good for them to have this loss. It brought their focus back in check.”

Sioux Central Quad Meet – May 9
The SCC boys golf team ended the regular season on a winning note as they won the Sioux Central Quad on May 9 at Little Sioux Golf Club.
Caleb Gaffney won medalist with 33 and Charlie Nattress was second with 36. Caleb Juhl shot 40 and Halas Steig was one stroke behind him with 41, to give the Titans a team total of 150.
The kids bounced back from the loss against Pocahontas with their lowest round of the year,” said Boerner. “Caleb Gaffney and Charlie Nattress led the scoring. Caleb Juhl, Halas Steig, Kaden Dorman, and Noah Hendricks also played well. By winning the quad, the kids wrapped up the conference dual championship to go along with their tournament win earlier in the week.”
