In a Sept. 10, 2025, letter posted on social media, South Central Calhoun Community School District confirmed the death of a high school student.

“This morning the District was notified that one of our very own SCC High School students, Cadyn Ogden, a sophomore, lost his life in a fatal car accident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the student’s family, friends and loved ones as they cope with this tremendous personal loss.”

The Iowa State Patrol has not yet released details of the fatal accident.

The letter, signed by Superintendent Brad Anderson and HS Principal Sara Pibal, adds that support services are available.

“A loss of this nature is sure to raise many emotions, concerns and questions from our school community, especially from some of our students. Members of the SCC Crisis Response Team, Heartland AEA (which is made up of professionals trained to help with the needs of students), pastors and staff, will be present at the High School today to provide support, comfort and reassurance to any student or family who needs it.”

The letter added, “High School students will be afforded the opportunity to call home using their personal devices.”

“Should students or parents need additional assistance please call the High School at 712-464-7211 or [the] District Office at 712-297-7341 during school hours.”

“If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Superintendent’s office at your earliest convenience at 712-297-7341.”

All Homecoming activities scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 10, have been postponed.

This is a breaking story and the Calhoun County Phoenix will have more information as it is publicly available.
