SCC sixth-grade student dies; district providing support
South Central Calhoun is providing support to students and staff following the death of a sixth-grade student
The district confirmed the death Wednesday morning but is limiting information at the request of the student’s family.
“South Central Calhoun Community School District is deeply saddened to share that a sixth-grade student in our middle school community has passed away,” Superintendent Brad Anderson said in a statement.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with the student’s family, friends, classmates, teachers, and all those who knew and cared for the student during this incredibly difficult time,” Anderson said.
“At the request of the family, the district will be limiting communication about this loss to those who need to know at this time,” Anderson said. “We ask members of the community and the media to respect the family’s wishes and privacy as they grieve.”
The district is providing support to students and staff affected by the death and said it will continue working with the family and school community.
SCC notified middle school parents Wednesday morning that the district had learned of the student’s death Tuesday night. Parents could decide how they wanted their children to receive the news.
