Nelson Media Company shoots promotional video for SCC Community School District

On the morning of Sept.28, a team from Nelson Media Company – consisting of owner Chris Nelson and head of projects Kristina Hogan – arrived at South Central Calhoun Middle School in Rockwell City to shoot footage for a promotional video.
The video is meant to help promote SCC Community School District.
With a tight schedule to follow it was a busy day for both NMC and SCC staff. Starting at 10:30 a.m. to set up equipment, the NMC team gathered footage of the middle school classroom.
SCC Superintendent Brad Anderson was the first to be interviewed by NMC.
“I really liked how (Nelson) was able to steer me in particular in the direction of one word and to know from experience or otherwise what works and what people are attracted to when marketing.” said Anderson. “Students are my world, and its most definitely not marketing. So, sharing his vision and trying to mesh it with ours has been highly important in this process.”
After an interview with Anderson asking about the mission, vision and goals for SCC, they got some footage talking about the school’s SELF Room. From there, they interviewed some teachers.
“It was fun to be invited to be a part of this video,” said Emily Schroer, the eighth grade Reading/ELA teacher at SCC Middle School. “I enjoyed getting to talk about our great district. It felt like they were very qualified and knew exactly what they were doing.”
At noon, NMC headed to SCC Elementary School in Rockwell City to interview about the BRIC program that SCC offers. After that they talked to some of the elementary teachers.
They also got some footage about the Elementary School’s mentoring program.
Afterwards, the NMC team headed to SCC High School in Lake City. While there, Nelson and Hogan talked to more teachers, and interviewed about the TLC coaching program.
“Once the videographer was set up, it went quickly,” said Sheila Welander, Induction Coach and Curriculum Coordinator at SCC High School. “My favorite part was definitely listening to students and teachers speak so passionately about SCC. It makes me proud of the work we're doing, and to be part of the Titan family.”
After getting some information about the SCC Academic Decathlon team and interviewing some students, NMC was ready to head home to edit and to piece everything together.
“At this point in the project, I am extremely happy with how things have gone,” said Anderson. “The staff has been very professional regarding their interactions with me, and more importantly, the students and staff.”
With all the footage gathered, SCC schools are now waiting for the end product to be delivered.
“Naturally, I am reserving some of my opinion based on the deliverables and end product, but it appears that all the right things are being done to secure the footage needed to put this end product together,” said Anderson.
Keep an eye out for the video within the coming weeks. The video will be shared not only on the South Central Calhoun website (www.scc.k12.ia.us) and social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter and Facebook, but will also premiere on the Nelson Media Company Facebook page.
The video will be posted on the Calhoun County Phoenix’s Facebook page, as well.
