Woodlawn Christian Church in Lake City has launched a new program for high school students interested in studying the Bible in a welcoming setting. “Bible Devotions for Teens: A Chronological Tour of the Bible” began on Aug. 26 and will continue throughout the school year. 
SCC PTO awarded grant to expand non-fiction collection
South Central Calhoun Elementary and Middle School students will soon see fresh additions to their libraries, thanks to a grant secured by the Parent Teacher Organization.
Lake City prepares for annual Fall Fest
Lake City will host its annual Fall Fest and Chili Cook-Off on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025 on the town square.
Hepp nominated for Leopold Conservation Award
James Hepp of Hepp Farms in Rockwell City is a finalist for the 2025 Iowa Leopold Conservation Award. The annual award is given by the Sand County Foundation, to “honor farmers, ranchers, and forestland owners who go above and beyond in their management of soil health, water resources and wildlife habitat on working land.” 
Middle schoolers visit D.C., pay tribute to local fallen heroes
In mid-July, 37 middle schoolers, along with several adult chaperones, visited Washington, D.C. The trip was open to sixth, seventh, and eighth graders, and was arranged independently through World Classrooms, a student tour company. 
Calhoun County Republicans host annual picnic
The Calhoun County Iowa Republicans hosted their annual picnic in Manson on Aug. 20, 2025. The event brought together several candidates for the 2026 election, including gubernatorial candidates Eddie Andrews, Brad Sherman, and Mike Bousselot.
Annual Triathlon raises funds for Twin Lakes Bible Camp
The 19th Annual Twin Lakes Triathlon was held on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025. According to Volunteer Coordinator Pat Bennett, 83 athletes registered for the event, ranging in ages from 11 to 71. The triathlon drew athletes from 35 towns in Iowa, as well as Colorado, Illinois, Nebraska, Ohio, Oregon, and South Dakota.
SCC cheerleaders host Little Titan Cheer Camp
​​​​​​​The South Central Calhoun cheerleaders hosted their annual Little Titan Cheer Camp on Friday, Aug. 22, 2025, prior to the football scrimmage. The camp, held at the high school in Lake City, welcomed students in preschool through eighth grade.
