Supervisors hear concerns over autopsy denial; Calhoun County EMS: Refusal was made by State Medical Examiner

At the Board of Supervisors meeting on Nov. 12, 2025, Arieanna Grage shared her concerns over how her family’s request for an autopsy was denied after her father, Paul Grage of Rockwell City, passed away on Jan. 21, 2024, at the age of 49. 
Veterans keep Lake City's flags flying

Bid to brighten homes: Opportunity Living's auction to fund lighting upgrades

Now through Nov. 23, holiday shoppers can bid on 200+ items, right from their laptop or smartphone. Proceeds from the auction go towards Operation Illumination 2, the second half of a two-phase project to replace the lighting in Opportunity Living buildings and homes. 
Carroll County ends jail contract with Calhoun County
Calhoun County Sheriff Pat Riley has confirmed that as of Jan. 19, 2026, the county’s inmates will no longer be housed in Carroll County. Riley said he received a notice of contract termination from Carroll County Sheriff Ken Pingrey on Oct. 21.

During South Central Calhoun Middle School’s Veterans Day Program on Nov. 11, three area veterans were honored with Quilts of Valor — each one representing gratitude, respect, and healing for those who have served.

What a ‘no’ vote could mean for EMS essential services
On Nov. 4, voters will decide whether Calhoun County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is an "essential service." A vote in favor would unlock funds in the form of a property tax levy, of up to $0.65 per $1,000 of assessed value. During town hall meetings and on social media, Musgrave has shared what could happen if the vote does not pass.
