PREVIEW: South Central Calhoun boys basketball

The South Central Calhoun boys basketball team enters the 2025–26 season with a strong returning core and several developing players expected to contribute as the schedule progresses. SCC finished 13–10 last winter and placed fourth in the Twin Lakes Conference, a result the Titans aim to build upon this year.

Her father, Dave Birks, coached the Rockwell City-Lytton girls basketball team, a powerhouse program that finished as the Class 1A state runner-up in 2003 and captured the state title the following year. For Kollasch, those years planted the earliest seeds of her love for the game.

The South Central Calhoun football team wrapped up its 2025 season with a 4-5 record and a third-place finish in the Class 1A District 2 standings. The Titans’ playoff run came to an end in the first round against Underwood, but several players earned recognition for their performances both from the district and within the program.

Iris Melody finished 9th in the Twin Lakes Conference Championship meet on Oct. 16, 2025 in Sioux Rapids. Jossa Haupert finished 16th, and on the boys’ side Declan Spencer was 16th and Joe Thielen finished 29th.
